End credit thoughts
This is the first time we've seen an actual trigger warning for strong sexual violence before a movie, and while the heavy content doesn't overwhelm the story, it is warranted.
First time filmmaker Zoë Kravitz didn't waste a single second to set the tone for the captivating cinematography and sound design. Her use of color and sound weren't just interesting, they enriched the story and took us on a ride from Point A to Point WTF. For all the things that Kravitz did well, the writing at times felt too on the nose and was distracting. But she never played it safe; she took big swings and most of them connected.
Channing Tatum is almost too good at playing a narcissistic sociopath, but it's Naomi Ackie and Adria Arjona who steal the show. By the third act of the movie these two actors are cooking.
Our blood pressure steadily rose as we waited for something horrible to happen and our brains worked OT as we tried to piece together the trail of bread crumbs that we were left to follow.
While the photography and sound give this movie it's own unique vibe, there is heavy subject matter and brutal violence. If you can stick with story through that you will be rewarded with a bold commentary on the patriarchal abuse of power. This movie is best watched with a friend or seven so you can process together in the parking lot.
Go see it on the big screen.
Favorite Movie Based in New Mexico
Eric
Sicario: A brilliant procedural that will have you on the edge of your seat. Sicario is the BEST of the best of movies set in New Mexico. Villeneuve puts on a master-class of tension that simply does not stop until the credits roll. The cast are also a bunch of heavy hitters. Dare I say this is Blunt's best role? (Sorry Devil Wears Prada stans).
Josh
The best movie set in New Mexico is Oppenheimer (2023). We can call it recency bias but also I was completely captivated by every aspect of this movie—the score, the visuals, the acting, the way the story is told non-linearly, and the most endearing portrayal of Albert Einstein. But it is hard not to say my favorite is Young Guns (1988). We watched this countless times growing up, with each viewing being more fun than the last.
New Mexico Drew
Most of it takes place in New York City, but it starts in New Mexico. The Cowboy Way taught me at a young age that real cowboys don’t live in Texas, they live in New Mexico. In 1994, I walked around in my burgundy cowboy boots and believed that will all of my heart. 🤠

Y2K (2024) directed by Kyle Mooney
I vividly remember playing James Bond Golden Eye on my N64 on New Years Eve 1999 as the grown ups anxiously watched the TV to see if the world would end at midnight. Never did I imagine that my remote control could animate and kill me.
Well, Kyle Mooney imagined it. This looks like a campy horror flick that will probably be funnier than it is scary. This might be Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut, but sign me up for anything that Julian Dennison (aka my man Ricky Baker) is in.
My millennial spirit is ready and seated.
