This week’s movie - Fight or Flight
Letterboxd Description:
This flight goes nonstop to hell.
A mercenary takes on the job of tracking down a target on a plane but must protect her when they’re surrounded by people trying to kill both of them.
Best Watched With
Those who are invested in Josh Stock and do not have a fear of flying on airplanes half-full of assassins.
End credit thoughts
A challenging mission turned impossible, and now we gotta call “that one guy” to save the day, which makes for a decent story foundation to build on. And it's hard to complain when “that one guy” is a degenerate with bleached hair and drinks like a fish but is highly capable, played by Josh Hartnett. This movie is over-the-top ridiculous, implausible, and self-aware, which makes it better than it probably should be.
Lucas Reyes (Hartnett) is tasked with keeping a target alive so that they can be delivered to the authorities on the other side, so that he can get his life back. The twist: the target is unknown. The double twist: The unknown target is on a plane. The Triple Deke twist: the unknown target is on a plane, and half of the passengers on this plane are cutthroat killers trying to kill Reyes and his target.
This movie may lack in execution of story and dialogue (lotsssss of telling what is happening and why, and not a whole lot of showing us), but it makes up for its missed marks by how insane some of the deaths are. How many ways can one possibly kill someone on a plane that we haven’t seen before? Enough to keep us entertained and squirm at the sounds of snapped bones and the sight of spewed O+. This might be the first time a chainsaw has been used on a plane.
Josh Hartnett and Charithra Chandran also contribute to the bright side of this One-Person-Army-Action Comedy. Their performances make this watch a lot of fun, thrilling, and at times, touching. The chemistry contributed to the flying sparks that went down in coach seating.
This movie isn’t trying to be a cinephile’s 5-star watch on Letterboxd, and that’s what makes it enjoyable. We aren’t going to say this movie is worth the evening price of tickets, but we are more than thrilled to see Hartnett’s continued return to the silver screen, and have a blast with the movies he’s choosing.
You can wait to stream this one in the comfort of your home.

Weapons by Zach Creggar
My family in Christ - please put Weapons on your watchlist for 2025. It's an upcoming horror film written, produced, and directed by Zach Cregger, the genius behind Barbarian (One of 2022's more wild films).
Here is the thing. The marketing for this movie has been TOP NOTCH. The teaser and trailer are creepy AS HELL, and truly have not given us any insight into what the film is about beyond the brief description from the scary-ass narrator girl: "Every other class had all their kids, but Mrs. Gandy's room was totally empty. And do you know why? Because the night before at 2:17 in the morning, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked down stairs, and into the dark.... and they never came back."
CHILLING STUFF. The trailer also takes some WILD turns in the final moments, leading us to believe that we are in for another twisted movie from Mr. Cregger.
Also - the little we know about the cast is already awesome. Julia Garner? BRUISER. Josh Brolin? BRUISER.
I'm seated six months in advance (my math is bad - it's only like two months away).
See you suckers in theaters August 8, 2025!!!!
-Eric
Letterboxd Description:
Last night at 2:17 AM, every child from Mrs. Gandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the dark …and they never came back.
When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.

Movies: An Invitation To Participate In Life
When I was growing up, I had an unnatural disdain for Sundays. It marked the end of the freedom that went by too fast and started the week that would slog by too slow.
