Despicable Me 4 made nearly a quarter of a billion dollars it’s opening weekend. It’s the fourth installment, there’s been a couple Minion movies, anyone who is interested in seeing it should have a clear idea of what to expect (Gru doesn’t need our help 😎).

So, here’s a scorecard for Fly Me To The Moon, a romcom premiering this weekend. Join us on Friday for our regularly scheduled newsletter where we’ll cover what some are calling the horror movie of the year.

Concession Stand Scorecard: Fly Me to the Moon
New Pod Drop: Living A Stream episode: Does the Sandman have a full movie??

We go to the movies every week to tell you if the latest films are worth the price of admission and what you can expect.

This week’s movie - “Fly Me to the Moon”

Letterboxd Description:

WILL THEY MAKE HISTORY… OR FAKE IT?

Sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones, brought in to fix NASA’s public image, wreaks havoc on Apollo 11 launch director Cole Davis’ already difficult task of putting a man on the moon. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as backup, and the countdown truly begins.

Best Watched With

Rom-Com-Drama lovers, your conspiracy-theorists friends, and Americans.

End credit thoughts

Apollo 11, Buzz, Armstrong, a love story, the race to space, and a government directed staged moon landing. Does this sound like it’s based on a true story? Yes. Is it actually based on a true story? Even though the magic between Cole Davis and Kelly Jones at times seems super real, it is not. Smoke and mirrors, baby.

Fly Me to the Moon is an All-American Rom-Com centering on the hard-working, loyal-to-the-bone Cole Davis (Channing Tatum) and the smart and stunning marketing guru Kelly Jones (Scarlett Johansson). The story includes the Apollo 11 mission, so expect Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, and the unsung third NASA hero, Michael Collins (the astronaut that, we assume, pulled the short straw and kept the engine running so they could get back to earth SAFELY while Buzz and Neil did what no human has ever done in the history of the world.)

This movie is a fun twist on reality that maintains the American spirit. The NASA stuff is the backdrop to the story of a self-made woman making a way for herself in a man’s world and a man finding a way to remain in the world he loves. Layers of passion and perseverance are wrapped around this moon landing venture that keeps you entertained and engaged.

Johansson rules in this role, switching and shifting into different accents and personas to charm her way to success. Tatum as a NASA nerd might not sound believable, but we’re glad to see him constantly reminding us of his range. Ray Romano’s performance is endearing and who doesn’t love Woody Harrelson on screen? Even if he plays a sleazy, secretive government agent, Harrelson is hard not to like.

Every rom-com must have some laughs, and this movie does a great job of balancing comedy and the drama of wondering if the mission will work out.

There is a lot to admire about this movie, and though it didn’t blow our minds, it’s a feel-good movie that will have you smiling after the end credits. It’ll make a great date night or a Sunday morning matinee. Otherwise, wait to stream this one.

In this episode, Josh and Eric are joined by guests Jeremy Torres, Skyler Neri, and Noah Monagle for a Living A Stream segment that explores Adam Sandler's wide-ranging filmography and lasting influence.

They use the Jimmy V 1993 ESPY Speech: Did the movie hold them in thought, make them laugh, and move their emotions to tears—while interweaving the movie's narratives with their life narratives.

The discussion spans from iconic comedies like Happy Gilmore (1996) and Big Daddy (1999) to dramatic roles in Uncut Gems (2019), and includes personal anecdotes and reflections on Sandler's work. The episode delves into the emotional resonance of Sandler's movies, the evolution of comedy, and the legacy Sandler leaves in popular culture. And lastly, they ask the question: Does the Sandman have a full movie in his filmography?
