Happy Oscar’s weekend to all who celebrate! Who’s going to be tuning in this Sunday? A better question, what is the over/under that Josh cries regardless of if Timothée Chalamet wins or loses best actor?
Here’s what we have for you this week:

Watchlist Worthy: The blessing and curses of Unicorns
New Pod Drop: Clueless Basterds

This week’s movie - Last Breath
Letterboxd Description:
Make every breath count.
A true story about seasoned deep-sea divers who battle the raging elements to rescue their crewmate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface.
Best Watched With
The friend or family member who loves the ocean and the one who absolutely hates it.
End credit thoughts
We have seen enough TikToks of the North Sea to know we should stay the hell away from it. This based-on-a-true-story movie is more evidence that we have no business going out into the abyss beneath that surface. What are we doing laying pipes on the ocean floor anyways (we hope there is a reader who can answer this question and put us in our place)? Last Breath shows us the hubris of our species. But also our resilience.
Chris Lemons (Finn Cole) is established right away as the center of the story as we follow him around his world of deep sea diving. The music made us think of the opening sequence of Friday Night Lights—introducing us to the what sport we’re playing, who’re the seasoned leaders, and win or lose, it’s going to be an emotional ride.
Knowing this is based on a true story compounded stress and anxiety from the jump. With the astronauts of the sea diving into the expansive unknown darkness beneath twenty foot swells, what could possibly go wrong?
We’ll give some leeway on our expectations of acting performances considering that this is a dramatization of real people and events that took place. But no matter what, Woody Harrelson never ceases to brings some warmth and levity to a 90-minute movie that is mostly made up of anxiety-inducing scenes.
Of course there are some heart string plucking and hold-your-breath type moments, but the scorecard also reflects some laughter. This is only because there were two times in our mostly packed theater erupted in laughing out loud, though we’re 110% sure this was not the filmmakers’ intention.
We love a tight 90-minute movie, and this one is a perfect at home watch when it comes to streaming.

Death of a Unicorn by Alex Scharfman
What if Unicorns were real? What if they sometimes got hit by on coming traffic? And what if, because one was accidentally turned into road kill, people discover Unicorns have magical properties like curing cancer so Big Pharma starts using the Unicorn for monetary gain but the other Unicorns don’t like it so they decide the humans have to die?
If you ever asked yourself these questions, this movie is for you.
Death of a Unicorn looks like an insane dark comedy/horror/fantasy that has something to say about people using magical and mythical creatures for their gain. And those people happen to be Jenna Ortega, Paul Rudd, Tea Léoni, Will Poulter, Richard E. Grant, Jessica Hynes, and Anthony Carrigan.
It’s going to be a party.
