Sweet & Condensed: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Scorecard, Best non-actor actor, a spacey Watchlist, favorite guest/new pod
Coming off the heels of Martin Scorsese's announcement that he is making a Frank Sinatra biopic, we are jumping on the trend and announcing our own biopic. It will chronicle the story of the founders of this newsletter. There will be themes of betrayal (sending slanderous texts in the group chat), obsession (compulsively scrolling Twitter for new film updates), and greed (fighting over who gets to write Watchlist Worthy). Kit Harington is already in talks to play Josh.
Here is what we have for you this week:
Concession Stand Scorecard: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Temp These Takes: Our favorite actors who didn’t start off as actors.
Watchlist Worthy: Finally, a movie for all of us who believe the moon landing was fake. We’re kidding (we think 🧐).
New Pod Drop: Kelly is back and she kept receipts. No one was spared in the new episode on the Twilight saga.
This week’s movie - “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare”
Letterboxd Description:
In 1940, Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming form a clandestine combat organization for Britain’s military that changes the course of World War II and prefigures the modern black ops unit through its unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis.
Best Watched With
Your dad and any WWII movie buffs. Other fellow nazi-hating friends who love a good “We’re putting together a team” movie.
End credit thought
The cast is likable and charming, led by the killer performances of Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, and Eiza González. The action brings a satisfying amount of nazi killing (were there bow and arrows and silencers used in WWII? Don't know, don't care, they were awesome). But the story lacks any sense of stakes and is predicable to a fault.
Overall, a fun movie, and unless you're a diehard Guy Ritchie fan, you're fine waiting to stream at home.
The best non-actor turned actor
Eric - The first that came to mind was our Prince of Pop - none other than JT. His presence in The Social Network was incredible - was he acting, or just playing himself? We aren't too sure. And have you heard his voice acting in Trolls? Next level stuff from Mr. Timberlake.
If we are talking longevity, I'm voting Dave Bautista - BRUISER and superior to all other wrestlers-turned-actors. Sorry John Cena. Don't worry - we'll never forget your work in Barbie or The Marine.
Sarah - There is only one right answer for my favorite non-actor actor: Michael Jordan in the great classic…SPACE JAM.
Josh - Dwight Yoakam’s scene in Wedding Crashers never fails to have me in stitches, he crushes it as the what-the-hell-am-I-doing Warden Burns in Logan Lucky, and left a lasting impression with his role as Raoul in Fincher’s Panic Room.
But Yoakam is a runner up to the one and only Danny Trejo. He went from being a child drug addict/criminal, in and out of jail/prison, to a bonafide actor with 433 and counting IMDb credits. A true legend of La Raza.
Kelly - I’m not going to lie, I had to Google an answer for this week's TT. Mostly because Eric told me to submit JLO, and I refused. That being said, in my search, Ronda Rousey popped up in Fast and Furious 7, and I remember it was like watching a real-life superhero in action. Who knew arm bars could translate into box office gold? Google also informed me she did all her own stunts, so like... what a badass 💅🏽
New Mexico Drew - Eric failed to mention another great wrestler turned actor, Stone Cold Steve Austin. If you haven't seen The Condemned (basically a terrible rip off of Hunger Games and Battle Royale in the best way) I recommend you do.
But my favorite non-actor actor would have to be Tupac Shakur for his amazing role in Gang Related. There you have it, two amazing takes and two amazing movie recs. Anything for my favorite people 🙏.

Fly Me to the Moon (2024) directed by Greg Berlanti
Put Woody Harrelson in anything and you’ll have my curiosity, make a trailer that looks this fun, now you have my attention.
Apple Originals has had a recent flop (Argylle) and a couple of really ambitious attempts (Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon) but this looks like they may have finally stuck the landing (😏) with Fly Me to The Moon. I’m not entirely sure what to expect, but the trailer is giving me dramedy / romcom vibes and I’m here for it.
Letterboxd Description:
Brought in to fix NASA’s public image, marketing maven Kelly Jones wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’s already difficult task of putting a man on the moon. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up.
Other movies directed by Greg Berlanti:
